Encounters

I started this series in summer 2006 during a two-month stay in Florence and continued it in my hometown Munich, Berlin and other big cities. Given the short time of the portrait sessions, some people offered me a quite intimate view of them. The initial experiment to photograph the backside of the people became an inherent part of this project. With showing their back to me, they had to give up some control over the scene. This somehow more vulnerable setting provided an additional view on their personality.
